Parshas Vayakhel: Rav Yehonoson Eibshitz - Other Shabossim Miss The Mark
"UBaYom Hashvi'i Yihiyeh Lachem Kodesh Shabbos...", on the seventh dayyou will have the holy day of Shabbos (Vayakhel 35:2). Shabbos is only for Klal Yisroel as we say in SHmoneh Esrei "V'Lo Nisato Hashem Elokeinu L'Goiyei Aratzos".
Rav Yehonoson Eibshitz points out in Yaaros D'vash that the mitzvos in the Torah are copied by the non-Jews in one form or another. Interestingly not a single religion keeps Shabbos. While Christians keep it on Sunday, the Muslims keep it on Friday.
It is no coincidence, says Rav Yehonoson, that no one chose to make their religion's Shabbos on Shabbos itself. Despite the fact that they all believe that Hashem created the world in six days and then rested, not a single one thought to do it after the six weekdays! Why? Because Hashem gave Shabbos as a special gift to us and would not let anyone take it away!
